Yew is a dense slow growing tree that produces a golden heartwood and creamy coloured sapwood. It turns beautifully and takes on an excellent finish. Some branches of yew have been turned here into bowls and treen.
Much of the Yew that I use has been obtained from windfall trees from the National Trust Runneymede /Ankerwyke site. This is the site of the famous Ankerwyke Yew which is believed to be about 2500 years old and so much of the wood I use is likely to be related to this tree. I must add that none of the wood came directly from this amazing tree.
