Rhododendron is not usually a timber used for wood turning but with some large trunks being felled as part of the clearance, natural edge bowls have been turned to show the grain and colour.
Rhododendron branches that have been left unmanaged for many years are very contorted and interwoven. There are very few straight grain pieces or pieces of a suitable size for turning.
With the rhododendron at Simons wood being over 60-70 years old, there are some large usable pieces of wood as shown above. These will be shown later in turned items.
